What we do

Here at King’s Lynn Foodbank, we believe that no one in our community should ever go hungry.

We work with many professional agencies to provide people with immediate and long-term support, three-day emergency food parcels, as well as advice on a variety of matters from our in-house Citizens Advice adviser.

Main activities

  • Providing three days of emergency food to people in need in King’s Lynn
  • Supporting 113 agencies and charities in our network to deliver their services
  • Signposting people who come to the foodbank to services and support
  • Providing an in-house Citizens Advice adviser for immediate and ongoing support

Main reasons people need us

In the last 10 years, the need for a foodbank in King’s Lynn has more than doubled and continues to grow. Most of our referrals come from four wards: North Lynn, St Margaret’s with St Nicholas, Fairstead, and South Lynn & West Lynn. The most cited reasons for people needing our help are:

  • Rising cost of essentials
  • Ongoing impact of physical or mental health condition
  • Debt
  • Benefit delay

75% of the people needing our help have benefits as their sole source of income. It’s simply not enough to cover essentials like food, household bills and transport.

Prevention

These are our main activities to help prevent people needing to use a foodbank:

  • Signposting people to other organisations who can support them and prevent people needing to rely on our emergency support
  • Our Citizens Advice adviser provides detailed advice to maximise people’s income and sort out issues such as housing problems
  • Raising awareness of the drivers of local poverty so that change can happen on a bigger scale

How can you help?
